LOCAL CENTRES

Welcome to JHP Chatham

The Anchor, set in front of JHP Chatham Business CentreJHP Training has been delivering vocational qualifications to employers and individuals in Kent and Medway for a good number of years, and success is meaning our provision and our staff have continued to grow. We have been based in our Chatham office for the past three years, after outgrowing our previous premises in Rochester.

Members of our Business Development team regularly visit both large and small businesses, offering the highest standard of training, support and guidance to employers, and are on hand to advise trainees with questions and queries about their programmes. The nine members of our admin team offer a high level of support and guidance to trainees and staff, in and out of the Business Centre, dealing with difficulties as they arise.

We have a team of 20 highly experienced and qualified Assessors who cover a full range of Vocational Qualifications - their dedication and experience to the job shines through and is evident with continued increasing success. In addition, our Entry to Employment team is well placed to offer help and support through a varied programme, which has helped over 100 young people from all over Kent gain essential employment skills.

What's New In JHP Chatham

New Opportunities for Women and Their Employers in London

The introduction of a new government initiative, Train to Gain, is a major advance in enabling employers to develop the skills of their employees.

JHP Training has recently celebrated another successful contract win under the umbrella of Train to Gain with our latest success being a pilot that focuses on under represented individuals in the workplace – in this case, women.

The acquisition of Train to Gain funding means women from the areas of London, Kent and Medway and Hertfordshire, who are working in the areas of Management, Customer Service, Administration, Adult Care, Children’s Care, Retail, Storage & Distribution, and IT will be eligible to take up work-based qualifications at Level 3.

This significant contract, which runs to 2008, will encourage employers to nvest in developing their female staff, alongside the existing mainstream Train to Gain contract which targets all employees.

If you are an employer or employee and think you could benefit from Train to Gain, please contact your nearest JHP branch and quote reference: Train to Gain.

JHP Chatham gives a helping hand in sending Amanda Stateside

Mark Haysom with JHP Chairman Hugh PitmanHello.

My name is Amanda Bodkin, I am 17 years old, and I am currently learning JHP Training, Chatham, and working towards an Apprenticeship in Administration.

I swim for Sharks Swimming Club in Eltham, and have just been accepted to join Black Lion Swimming Club in Gillingham. I have been swimming since I was 9 years old and I train four times a week.

In the last year I have swum in Sheffield, Wales and Nottingham, and have also competed in competitions in Holland and Belgium, winning money from the local Council merit award for sports and games. During this time I have won a large amount of gold, silver and bronze medals and certificates of achievement.

This summer I have been selected to swim in America, in the Cerebral Palsy Sport World Games for England and Wales. To enable me to do this, my family and I need to raise the £1,500 that it will cost me to go.

The staff at JHP are organising events to raise some of the money needed, with Centre Manager Yvonne agreeing to have a staff dress down day every Friday until I go in July. Each staff member will pay £1.00 each for this, and also take part in a raffle.

If you would like to donate money or have a sponsored day at your centre to raise money for the SEND AMANDA TO AMERICA FUND, which we have started at Chatham, please contact Linda in the e2e room at Chatham Centre on 01634 842299.

Top Government Exec drops in to JHP Chatham

Mark Haysom with JHP Chairman Hugh PitmanMark Haysom, Chief Executive of the Learning and Skills Council, recently visited JHP Chatham as part of an initiative to raise the profile of work based learning in England.

The visit to JHP was part of a schedule covering several key contributors to the world of vocational training in Kent. Mr Haysom is keen to observe the delivery of quality training programmes in person and, as one of the region’s largest providers, JHP Chatham was thrilled to have been chosen for the visit.

The Learning and Skills Council’s main aim is making England better skilled and more competitive. As former Managing Director of the Mirror group of newspapers, Mr Haysom has a wealth of experience in the private sector and has shown he is eager to develop successful relationships between training providers and businesses, and JHP Chatham is certainly doing that! Having built strong links with local employers over many years, the Centre has worked consistently and successfully to deliver effective work based training and qualifications to the local work force.

Another connection that the LSC would like to strengthen is between training providers and colleges – here JHP Chatham once again meets the criteria - having forged a partnership with West Kent College, their goal being to develop Kent’s skills base.

During his visit to JHP Chatham, Mark met Hugh Pitman and JHP staff, including Acting Centre Manager Denise Clements. The day was a great success with local press there to report on the visit.

Chatham Cares

A celebration of success was recently held at Rochester Cathedral to award JHP Chatham’s mature learners for their work within the care industry and for their achievements in their NVQs.

The Certificates were presented by Countess Mountbatten of Burma and after the celebration the achievers were treated to lunch in the Corn Exchange.

When they started their courses, some of the learners involved were very apprehensive about embarking on a qualification. However, with the help and encouragement of Chatham’s Care Assessors combined with their own determination they achieved their NVQs and were delighted with their success.
