What's New at JHP Brmingham

New Opportunities for Jobcentre Plus Customers

JHP Birmingham is pleased to announce that it has recently won a contract to provide basic and employability skills training to Jobcentre Plus customers, brought about following a new government initiative to help people get back to work.

The programme provides encouragement and support to all adults looking to improve their literacy, language and numeracy skills in order to find employment and JHP Birmingham's friendly staff are ready to welcome newcomers to the programme.

The employability award is based on the skills, behaviours and attitudes that employers want to see in a new recruit and as such the programme is personalised to each Jobcentre Plus customer to ensure a high success rate. During the programme, learners will take part in various activities including:

  • Activities to enhance their employability skills
  • Opportunities to update their knowledge and understanding of the local job market
  • Opportunities to update their job search skills, to take part in job interviews and spend trial placements with local employers
  • Literacy, language and numeracy programmes personalised to their individual needs
  • Progress reports every three weeks to ensure they are getting the most from the programme

All of the training offered by JHP Birmingham is nationally recognised and will put learners in a better position to find a job they enjoy.

eNVQ Management achievers Ruth and Ian Shepherd

100th and 101st ILP Belong to Brother and Sister Duo

Brother and sister, Ruth and Ian Shepherd, who are both undertaking Management Level 4 qualifications at JHP Birmingham, have successfully achieved their Independent Learning Plans (ILP).

Ruth became the 100th ILP completer using eNVQ at JHP Birmingham, pipping her brother Ian to the post by just one day!

eNVQ is an effective method of working towards National Vocational Qualifications or Apprenticeships and involves an online portfolio of work instead of the paper-based folders of old.

Achieving qualifications via eNVQ has proven a hit with learners training with JHP Birmingham with over 150 qualifications delivered so far.

If you’re interested in completing a qualification and like the sound of eNVQ then why not contact JHP Birmingham.

Training Pays Off in Prize Winning Battle

A recent winner in JHP’s ‘National Learner Awards’ Competition has come a long way to get recognition for her achievements. Medi Dergic, 25, who fled to the UK from Bosnia, has battled it out against over 130 nominees to win a prize in the national competition.

Just a few years ago Medi, 25, and her parents fled to the UK during the Bosnian war. Since then, she has learned to speak fluent English and trained for Administration and IT qualifications with JHP Training Birmingham. /p>

Medi first came to JHP Birmingham with the determination to pass an Administration qualification as well as Key Skills and a Technical Certificate in just eight months - remarkably she did it in three!

She made fast progress and achieved her qualifications quickly despite facing difficulties with the language. And, since gaining employability skills with JHP, Medi has since gone on to gain work experience with West Midlands Police and has plans to go to University.

Having made a big impression on her tutors, Medi was nominated for an award and was selected as Regional Winner for the Central Region in the competition. Medi walked away with a £500 prize along with three other finalists in the competition all of whom had trained hard in both employability and vocational training.

Unfortunately Medi was unable to attend the Awards Ceremony itself, but she had a good excuse - she was back in Bosnia getting married!
