Serving learners, employers and communities in the South East, JHP Training has two very different centres in Hertfordshire. JHP Watford has been around for seven years and can definitely be described as a centre ‘on the up’, as we recently outgrew our office space and expanded onto the floor upstairs. Our Stevenage centre, by comparison, is much smaller and much younger, having first opened its doors in early 2003, and specialises solely in our 'Entry to Employment' programme.
The introduction of a new government initiative, Train to Gain, is a major advance in enabling employers to develop the skills of their employees.
JHP Training has recently celebrated another successful contract win under the umbrella of Train to Gain with our latest success being a pilot that focuses on under represented individuals in the workplace – in this case, women.
The acquisition of Train to Gain funding means women from the areas of London, Kent and Medway and Hertfordshire, who are working in the areas of Management, Customer Service, Administration, Adult Care, Children’s Care, Retail, Storage & Distribution, and IT will be eligible to take up work-based qualifications at Level 3.
This significant contract, which runs to 2008, will encourage employers to invest in developing their female staff, alongside the existing mainstream Train to Gain contract which targets all employees.
If you are an employer or employee and think you could benefit from Train to Gain, please contact your nearest JHP branch and quote reference: Train to Gain.
An employee and Apprentice of JHP Training Watford was named Apprentice of the Year at the LSC Hertfordshire Celebration of Achievement Awards.
Receptionist and Administrator, Louise West, was presented her prize by none other than TV presenter and Olympic Athlete Roger Black at a ceremony that recognised the achievements of young people in vocational learning.
After leaving school without any GCSEs, Louise began an Entry to Employment programme and quickly progressed to a Foundation Apprenticeship in Business Administration. Louise then went on to finish her qualification in record time, and as a result has been recognised as Apprentice of the Year. At the ceremony Louise said:
“Winning this award means a great deal to me. Without my Apprenticeship training I probably wouldn’t have got a full-time job and I would like to thank my employers and say how much I appreciate their support.”
Louise was awarded a glass plaque and £100 in Virgin record vouchers; fellow staff members at JHP Watford were there to cheer her on as she was presented her prize.
JHP Training Watford is growing and growing – the staff are so good that the centre just can’t help it! The JHP team was getting a little cramped on the second floor of Abbey House in Watford’s High Street, so a decision was made to expand the centre upwards onto the third floor. Apart from staff members getting a little more leg-room, the move has meant e2e now have a whole floor to themselves.
On Friday 4th June, the centre saw a visit from company Chairman, Hugh Pitman, who opened the new floor officially. The JHP Watford team showed Mr Pitman, local MP Clare Ward and mayor Dorothy Thornhill that they really like to celebrate in style as they marked the occasion with a party.
JHP offers Apprenticeships, NVQs and Adult Apprenticeships in the following employment areas:
