One of two outstanding JHP Training learners to reach the finals
in the Chamber of Commerce Excellence in Cumbria Awards this year,
Jane Berry impressed the judges with her dedication and commitment
to succeed.
Jane started her career path on the e2e training programme at
Kendal. Her positive experience on this programme gave her the
confidence to apply for a place on the County Council Pathways to
Employment. Jane performed well at her interview and was successful
in gaining a place on the programme and placement at Riverside
House, Kendal.
Jane has made great progress through her hard work and is currently
on her Health & Social Care Apprenticeship Level 2 at Riverside
House where she is a highly valued member of the team. Jane has
continued to grow in confidence with the additional training and
guidance she receives from the team at JHP Training.
Shaun joined JHP Kendal’s e2e programme with a low expectation of ever achieving anything. Having moved from school to school and failing his GCSEs in English and Maths, Shaun’s Literacy and Numeracy needed assistance. This resulted in him being turned down by the local college to study Construction and his self esteem and confidence were extremely low. Shaun had been in trouble with the police on several occasions and didn’t think he could turn his life around.
After joining JHP Kendal, Shaun found talking in a group discussion very uncomfortable and was reluctant to take part in any team building activities. Through praise and recognition of small efforts Shaun’s confidence and self esteem began to lift and he began working one to one with the basic skills tutor on his Literacy and Numeracy needs.
By the time Shaun had been on programme for twelve weeks he had achieved his Level 2 in Adult Literacy and had completed the British Heart Foundation’s Heartstart program which gave him basic life support skills in an emergency.
Shaun re-applied to Kendal College to do a foundation course in Construction, which was his dream vocation, and one he had felt at the start was just that, a dream. His application was accepted and Shaun has now completed the course along with a basic IT qualification. Shaun is continuing his education at college in Construction and all at JHP Kendal are very proud of his achievements and determination to turn his life around.
A group of e2e learners in Kendal recently took part in the British Heart Foundation’s Heartstart programme which give learners the skills of emergency life support (ELS). The training enables the learner to perform a set of actions needed to keep someone alive until professional help arrives; these include performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), dealing with choking, serious bleeding and helping someone that may be having a heart attack. This training can be used in places of work or at home and can save lives. Each of the learners received a certificate to confirm they had successfully taken part in the training.
Pictured top are the learners with their certificates and the trainers who presented them.
