Kidsunlimited - Case Study

Kidsunlimited have been working with JHP Training since 2009 and during that time over 300 learners have successfully completed an apprenticeship – with yet more on track to succeed in 2012.

With over 60 nurseries across the UK - and further expansion planned in 2012 - kidsunlimited is committed to delivering the very highest standards of care and education for pre-school children and is the fifth largest childcare provider in the UK offering nearly 6,000 child places.

Kidsunlimited chose JHP Training as one of their preferred supplies as they were looking for a training and apprenticeship provider who could deliver nationally - so as to cover all of kidsunlimited nurseries across the UK.

The benefits of putting training and development high on the agenda for their staff have been plain to see: during a recent survey, 100% of kidsunlimited managers agreed that the qualifications were benefitting their staff.

Kiran Elliott, kidsunlimited Talent Development Manager comments:“Training and skills development improves the quality of care and supports kidsunlimited’s succession planning strategy, it also creates a pipeline of qualified staff within our Nurseries.

Malcolm Vickery is testament to this approach. Malcolm joined kidsunlimited as a Nursery Nurse in May 2007 and has since gone on to be promoted to Deputy Manager at the Nursery in Epping - after successfully completing his Level 3 Management Apprenticeship with JHP. Malcolm commented: "Throughout the JHP Apprenticeship programme my confidence has increased and I'm now much surer of myself when dealing with management issues and queries from parents. Skills that I already had have been reinforced and I really enjoyed the style of learning, with the majority of the work carried out within the nursery."

Training is also delivered to those that are at a different stage in their career, for example, those who have chosen a change of direction or are returning to work after a career break. This is the case with Catherine White who retrained after a career break to bring up her family. Commenting on her Apprenticeship programme Catherine said:

“I really enjoyed the opportunity to study, learn and immediately put what I’d learnt into practice. Having brought up my own children, I found out that there was a lot of theory that helped me make sense of the practical skills I had and how to improve them. The qualification has given me the confidence to lead best practice in my room, which has been reflected in my recent promotion to Room Supervisor.”

Qualifications currently delivered by JHP Training for kidsunlimited;

  • Children and Young Peoples Workforce Level 2
  • Children and Young Peoples Workforce Level 3
