Training for Work is a programme designed to help you back into the job market

Perhaps you're returning to work after a break, or maybe you've been the victim of a large-scale redundancy. If so you could be finding applying for jobs is more difficult than you thought.

Through practical help on applications and valuable skills training, Training for Work offers a realistic route towards getting the job you want. Our well-equipped Business Centres offer a wide range of effective learning options - here are just a few:

  • Introduction to employers and industry
  • Guidance on CV building, letter writing and application forms
  • Advice on job search techniques and interview skills
  • Motivation and assertiveness training
  • IT and internet training

If you are currently claiming benefits, don't worry! You will be paid a training allowance for the duration of your programme, which is usually £10 per week more than your equivalent benefit entitlement, plus help with travel costs where applicable. Additional help may also be available, e.g. if you are a lone parent.

Eligibility

Training for Work will usually be open to you if you are aged 25 or over and meet one of the following criteria:

  • Unemployed for six months or more
  • Casualty of a large scale redundancy
  • Returning to the labour market after a break (e.g. having children)
  • Lone Parent
  • Have a disability
  • Have learning difficulties
