JHP Training has been providing training services to employers and individuals in Stoke-on-Trent since 1989, and during that time we have forged many strong business and community relationships. But never dwelling too much on the past, recent success has ensured that our presence in the region is growing ever stronger.
Here at Stoke we offer a wide range of Apprenticeships, NVQs ,e2e and Learndirect courses, with a dedicated and committed team in excess of 30 staff, endeavouring to meet every individual’s needs. JHP works with a large proportion of Stoke-on-Trent’s major employers, training their staff to the highest level, and offering a wide range of resources to support both staff and learners on all programmes.
JHP Stoke is pleased to announce that it has recently won a contract to provide basic and employability skills training to Jobcentre Plus customers, brought about following a new government initiative to help people get back to work.
The programme provides encouragement and support to all adults looking to improve their literacy, language and numeracy skills in order to find employment and JHP Stoke's friendly staff are ready to welcome newcomers to the programme.
The employability award is based on the skills, behaviours and attitudes that employers want to see in a new recruit and as such the programme is personalised to each Jobcentre Plus customer to ensure a high success rate. During the programme, learners will take part in various activities including:
All of the training offered by JHP Stoke is nationally recognised and will put learners in a better position to find a job they enjoy.
Two Apprentices from JHP Stoke have been honoured for their hard work, innovation and perseverance at the third annual Staffordshire Apprenticeship awards. The awards were organised by the Staffordshire Providers Association (SAP) and were held at the Moat House hotel in Festival Park. The ceremony recognised young people aged between 14 and 24 who have excelled after taking on an Apprenticeship.
More than 100 youngsters entered the awards and two JHP Stoke Apprentices were short-listed. Unfortunately, neither came away the overall winner but they were both highly commended – Mark Darlington in the Apprenticeship Award category and Rebecca Ball in the Personal Achievement category.
BBC Radio 1 duo, Chappers and Comedy Dave were on hand to present the awards and after the ceremony they also played a DJ set as the post-ceremony party got into full swing.
Comedy Dave said: "It has been a fantastic evening and everybody has done really well – it has been a privilege for myself and Chappers to be here".
JHP Stoke's Learndirect programme is going from strength to strength, offering learners support with numeracy and literacy, updating their skills and offering them the opportunity to gain new qualification in Maths, English and IT. We can offer these courses at our fully equipped centre or you can access them from a variety of locations including at home, community centres or local libraries.
One of our Learndirect learners, Alex Everill, was recently nominated for a NIACE (National Institute of Adult Continuing Education) award. Alex won the award and continues to progress extremely well with his course).
A programme run by JHP Training Stoke is proving to be highly effective helping marginalised people into employment.Support U 2 Work, a 26 week course for adults with mental health issues, has seen some very positive results since it began in January 2005.
To date, we have enabled two individuals to secure full-time jobs and in May saw our first learner, Ted Watkins, attend a work placement in a Customer Service role at ASDA.
In addition, four members of the group achieved a nationally recognised Health & Safety certificate and other in-house qualifications in June (pictured). The majority of our learners are also working towards an NVQ Level 1 in IT and other qualifications specific to them, which will increase their chances of following other SU2W members into full-time employment when they leave.
Well done to all staff and learners involved!
John Lovell is a young man with a mission. At age 17 he has just completed his training with JHP and has begun employment at Tesco’s Supermarket in Trent Vale. Since he first walked through the doors of JHP Stoke in August 2003, John has worked incredibly well to overcome limitations from learning difficulties and work towards the full-time position he has now achieved.
A mixture of encouragement from his employer, Landau (a support network for people with learning difficulties to find employment) and JHP, John has been enabled to move onwards and upwads, improving his Literacy and Numeracy skills and completing an NVQ Level 1 in Distribution Operations in only six months. Not to forget, however, his enthusiasm and work ethic, which have helped him overcome many obstacles to begin a career with real prospects. In return Tesco have gained a hard-working, versatile and flexible employee, eager to pursue his career whilst working towards an NVQ Level 2 in Warehousing.
